Objectives
The main objective of the Graduate Program in Geography (PGE) at the State University of Maringá (UEM) is to meet the demand for professors and related professionals, training qualified staff to teach, research and extend their work in the area of regional and environment analysis, with the aim of understanding the production process of urban, rural and regional space and its respective environmental implications.
Research Fields
Environmental Analysis: Study of change in space and time, in natural environments and those occupied and modified by human beings.
Production of Space and Territorial Dynamics: Study of the organization of inhabited space, valuing agrarian, urban, economic and demographic issues, with an emphasis on the north-central and northwest regions of the State of Paraná.
History
This was the first Geography Course in the State of Paraná, at Master’s level (MGE), approved and implemented at the State University of Maringá/Department of Geography - Concentration Area “Regional Analysis and Environment: Natural and Anthropic Environmental Changes”, Research fields: Environmental Analysis; Methods and Research Techniques; Biogeo Dynamic Analysis of the Landscape and Organization of Inhabited Space. The first class began in March 1998, following a favorable opinion from CAPES on November 12th, 1997, Resolution No. 055/96-CEP, Opinion No. 008/95-CAD e Opinion No. 010/97-COU/ACA.
On November 18th, 1999, a change in the name of the course was approved, to Graduate Program in Geography (PGE), Concentration Area “Environmental and Regional Analysis.”.
The PhD Course in Geography (PGE) – Concentration Area “Environmental and Regional Analysis” Research Fields environmental and Regional Analysis, started its first class in August 2008, following a favorable opinion from APCNCAPES on 18.12.2007, Resolution No. 020/2007-CEP, Opinion No. 005/2007-CAD e Opinion No. 004/2007-COU.
